A haven of renewal built on a legacy of hospitality
The name
When brainstorming names, we often used the word miracle as a starting point. Each time someone asks us about this “retreat thing” we are doing, we hear ourselves repeatedly beginning our answers with, “it’s a miracle.” When we landed on the word Mirador, it fit.
A mirador is a tower or balcony with an expansive view – a place to step out and get a broader outlook. We hope this setting will foster reflection and help you gain perspective on life and its possibilities.
Mirador is also a play on the words mirror, door and miracle (mira is Latin for miracle). A mirror is a tool for self-reflection. A door is something to step through to new opportunities. And we truly believe that Mirador is a miraculous place that will continue to be a place of miracles.
Our operating definition of retreat is a quiet or secluded place in which one can rest and reflect, which you will certainly find here.
our history
The purpose behind – and our passion for – Mirador Retreats has developed through our professional and personal lives since we married in 1992. We met near the end of our years at USC, sharing a love of the outdoors, a rich faith, and a heart for serving people. Over time, we have developed a love for life-changing organizations and supporting the people that run them.
The trickle-down effect is real in any system - family or business. Leadership can be lonely. Support is vital. Confidentiality is essential, and a place to process life can often be hard to find. As we developed in our various business and ministry settings, our specializations and training have landed us repeatedly in the most intimate places of people's lives, both excruciating and extraordinary.
We have both encouraged and challenged - in executive conference rooms and international teaching classrooms - one precious relationship at a time. We have been invited into conversations in living rooms, at corporate offices over coffee, on mountain tops, at camps, amidst wedding receptions, during funerals, at river banks, on ranch benches, and aside hitching rails. Animals, prayer, and retreat experiences have flooded our life story and communicated the power of breathing deeply, taking in the surroundings, creating safety amongst one another, and listening well.
Our own personal story, both extraordinary and at times excruciating, continues to develop our dependence on our Creator and an empathy for loving others unconditionally. Our prayer is that the environment we nurture daily at Mirador Retreats would be a place of rest, healing, inspiration, and vision. One where people reflect, envision, and engage. We pray that lives would be impacted, that miracles would abound, and that God’s touch would be undeniable.
history of this property
The home that today houses Mirador Retreats was built in 1966 with a vision to raise family, live in community, love neighbors, and serve others. Leaders of all types were often welcomed and hosted on the property. The legacy of faith, family, love, community, and service was continued through the daughter of the original owners. Inspired by our vision and 30 years of prayers and hearts to do the same, the owner and her family chose to entrust this beautiful environment to us to continue the legacy on which the foundation was poured. This felt like nothing short of a miracle! As promised, the legacy continues.
